The Civic Museums of Pavia

Pre-eminently monumental place of the city, the Visconti Castle is seat of the Civic Museums, where, on three floors and a gross surface area of more than 8,000 m2, there are exhibition rooms and many related services.
On the ground floor: besides the ticket office with bookshop and toilets, the room for temporary exhibitions and the didactic hall, the museum sections: archaeology, Longobard jewellery and Early-Medieval sculpture, room of the Romanic cathedrals, of the Gothic sculpture and fresco of St Agata al Monte, of the Renaissance sculpture.
On the first floor: the Pinacoteca Malaspina (ancient and of the seventeenth-eighteenth century), the room with the wooden model of the cathedral, the nineteenth-century picture gallery and the Morone Donation. After, the storages, the room with the engravings and the coin, the head offices, art reference, photographic archives, specialist library.
On the second floor: the Historical Museum of Risorgimento, the Robecchi Bricchetti Ethnographic Museum, the didactic Gipsoteca and the section of modern sculpture.
On the last years, significant building works have guaranteed a major functionality to the expositive routes involving the historical Visconti residence.
